Dear BCP Digital Marketing,
I have a question for you. I want to start optimizing my website and I\'m not sure if it would it be better to start fresh with a new site or should I try to fix the existing site? Does it make sense to have someone design it from scratch?
Thanks

Whether you start over from scratch or decide to optimize your existing site depends on a lot of things:
Do you really like the design of your current site or is it dated or ugly?
Is your current website designed with your customers in mind?
Does it convert well and/or attract a lot of traffic?
Does the current design allow for SEO to be performed easily?
If you can quickly answer YES to these questions, then you may not need to start from scratch. If you hesitated even a little, you would probably be better off redesigning your site from the ground up.
In other words, if there are more answers in the *no* column than the *yes* one, you should absolutely, without a doubt, scrap your existing site and start a new one. If you are worried about losing current search rankings for existing pages, you should consider 301 redirecting those pages to their replacement pages when you create them. Make sure you DO have replacements for them.
In terms of a new site, I would recommend keeping your own domain. Also, make sure your new design not only has an attractive theme to it, but that it is responsive (looks good on all types of platforms... computer, phone, tablet, etc.) and has all the proper SEO hooks integrated into it. This will help you either work on SEO yourself, or make it less time consuming (i.e. less cost) for your SEO web design company to work on it for you.
Hope this helps.
